<?xml:namespace prefix = v />It is truly unbelievable the number of very interesting people who pass through the doors of our Distribution Center. For every associate, going and coming, there is a story; however, few are more inspiring than that of the Reverend Lucy Johnson.
Lucy began working in Order Processing in October. She also observed a very special anniversary on November 8. Two years ago this date, Lucy saw a vision become a reality.
When she “felt the call of the Lord” she began preaching the word of God in 1958. When Lucy saw the limitless possibility of sending the Word of God to many, many listeners through radio, she took it as a challenge to do so.
“I took it on faith,” says Lucy, in regard to her early broadcast.
When donations were not sufficient to meet expenses in those early days, Lucy explained how she paid for broadcast time out of her earnings from other sources. So intent was her desire to reach shut-ins and all those who came to depend on her weekly sermons that she was willing to make personal sacrifices.
Today, through the generosity of a local business concern, financial worries of the program are no more. All expenses are paid by the sponsoring company to leave Lucy free to concentrate on just the right musical selections and sermon topics.
“Lifting Up Jesus”, with the Reverend Lucy Johnson can be heard every Sunday morning 10:30-11:00 on AM Radio Station WYZE.
Lucy, who makes her home in Forest Park, is not the only evangelist in her family. Her son, who started preaching at the age of ten years, was ordained at the age of 12, in the Pentecostal Church of God.
“Helping people who might not otherwise be able to get to a religious service,” explains Lucy, “is my main purpose in making the broadcasts.”
The response she has received from listeners is a good indication that the Reverend Lucy Johnson is listened to as well as greatly appreciated.
